Pastor David Aanonson, Interim Pastor
Trinity Lutheran Church is so excited to announce this month we are welcoming our Interim Pastor-- Pastor David Aanonson.
A little biography:
My name is David A. Aanonson and I am the interim pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford for the next few months.
I retired eight years ago after thirty-five years of full-time ministry.
I was born and raised in rural Estherville, in northwest Iowa, and graduated from Lincoln Central High School in Gruver, Iowa, in 1964. (It really is on the Iowa highway map.) I grew up on a farm. We were dairy farmers for most of that time. My father later both farmed and owned a service station in Estherville, so I spent much time filling cars with gas and washing them. I attended Augsburg College, Minneapolis; Estherville Junior College; and graduated from Dana College, Blair, Nebraska, in 1968 with a B.A. in history and social science.
It was at Dana College that I met my wife, Barbara, and we were married in 1969. Barb graduated that year with a B. S. in elementary education. I served in the United States Air Force from 1968-1972 as a radio intercept analyst. I was stationed in Amarillo and San Angelo, Texas, Brindisi, Italy, and Anchorage, Alaska. Barb was able to accompany me to both Italy and Alaska.
After I was discharged from the Air Force, I attended Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota. I served my year of internship at Central Lutheran Church in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. I received a Master of Divinity degree in 1976 and was ordained on June 6 of that year. Since being ordained I have served the following congregations: First-Chariton and Christ the Servant-Corydon, Iowa; All Saints-Davenport (of which I was the pastor developer); Mamrelund-Stanton, Iowa; Trinity-Lawrence, Kansas; and Christ the King-Iowa City (from which I retired after twenty years). While we lived in Lawrence I also attended the University of Kansas and earned a Master of Business Administration degree in 1992.
Since retirement I have served as interim pastor at the following congregations: First-Cedar Rapids; Holy Redeemer-Cedar Rapids (two times); Faith and Our Savior’s-Calamus; Grace-Muscatine; St. Matthew-Davenport; St. James Bettendorf; and All Saints-Davenport (of which I was the pastor developer 28 years earlier), and Gloria Dei-Cedar Rapids.
Barb and I are parents of three children; Rachel (and husband Eric) of Vinton, Iowa; Erik (and wife Wendy) of Bondurant, Iowa; and Sarah (and husband, Greg) of North Liberty. We are also grandparents of seven delightful grandchildren.
Barb worked at Grand Wood Area Education Agency for over twenty years and occasionally substituted at Iowa City Montessori School, but is now fully retired. (She earlier taught full-time at Anchorage Montessori School and substituted at the Brindisi Dependent School). I look forward to serving as your pastor for the next few months. We will continue to live in Coralville, and I will commute to serve you. I do ask for your prayers and I promise that I will hold you in my prayers each and every day.
In Christ’s Name, Pastor David A. Aanonson

Sarah Boyles, Office Coordinator
Sarah was born and raised on a farm in Southeast Iowa and attended school in Fairfield. Being the middle child of five, she relates to the Jan Brady's of the world!
After High School, she attended Pensacola Christian College where she obtained and Associates Degree in Legal Administration in 2003. Sarah then studied Fashion Design for 2 years at the Academy of Art Institute and has a passion for design and creativity. She received a Bachelor's of Science from Liberty University in Marketing Management in 2010.
Believing the "sky is the limit", Sarah decided to follow the path of her Aunt and secured a License to sell Real Estate in Iowa 2014. She's been doing that for the past five years and absolutely loves it; this allows her to work with people and also gives her the outlet to market and creativity.
Sarah's goals for the next few years is to travel as much as she can, invest wisely, continue to create, and to possibly focus on starting a family of her own. She is very excited to be a part of Trinity Lutheran as your Office Coordinator and she strives to help the community here!
Calling a Pastor
Trinity Lutheran Church is in the process of discernment as we think about calling our next pastor. While we may have an interim pastor covering essential pastoral responsibilities, the interim is not available in the same way as a full-time pastor. Please keep us in your prayers as we continue through the transition.
