Why a youth mentoring program at Trinity Lutheran?
Our youth at Trinity Lutheran is the next generation for our church community. We are always looking to find ways to develop their unique relationship with Christ. A mentoring program at Trinity Lutheran is just one of those ways we hope to show each other how Christ lives in our everyday lives.
We hope this program through formal and informal relationship building will include essential components to create caring, empathetic, consistent and long-lasting relationships.
Mentoring provides youth with mentors who can develop an emotional bond with the mentee, have greater experience than the mentee, and can provide support, guidance, and opportunities to help youth succeed in life and meet their goals (DuBois and Karcher, 2005).
Goals and Expectations
The goal is to have every youth member of our Children’s & Youth Ministry matched with a mentor member of our church community. The expectation is that the mentoring relationship should be a fun relationship where the mentor and mentee have natural, casual conversations frequently.
What can I do with my mentee?
Participate in Mentor Program activities
Say “good morning” on Sunday before church
Ask how you can pray for them
Invite your mentee to sit with you in church
Volunteer together: greet, usher, serve fellowship, etc.
Sit together during fellowship
Attend church activities together (special church services, Trunk-or-Treat, etc.)
Send birthday and holiday cards
Contact either Anna/Danielle or fill out the Mentor Registration Form.
