Schedule Baptism

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

In the sacrament of Baptism, we understand that God is working to reveal God’s love, grace and forgiveness to all. It is our pleasure and our joy to welcome all into God’s family of faith through baptism. At Trinity Lutheran we offer baptism at any age, but baptism of a child is most common in our tradition. Baptism is a communal act that is included in a worship service, and the community commits to support the child (or adult) in their journey of faith.

As Lutherans, we understand that:

“God, who is rich in mercy and love, gives us a new birth into a living hope through the sacrament of baptism. By water and the Word God delivers us from sin and death and raises us to new life in Jesus Christ. We are united with all the baptized in the one body of Christ, anointed with the gift of the Holy Spirit, and joined in God's mission for the life of the world.” - ELW Service of Baptism

When a child is baptized at Trinity, parents make a commitment to the following ways of Christian living, while adults make this same commitment for themselves:

As you bring your children to receive the gift of baptism, you are entrusted with responsibilities:

to live with them among God's faithful people,

bring them to the word of God and the holy supper,

teach them the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments,

place in their hands the holy scriptures,

and nurture them in faith and prayer,

so that your children may learn to trust God,

proclaim Christ through word and deed,

care for others and the world God made,

and work for justice and peace.

At Trinity, it is our calling to support all baptized individuals, as well as parents and families who are raising baptized children, in the Christian faith:

We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share:

join us in giving thanks and praise to God

and bearing God's creative and redeeming word to all the world.

What should I know about Baptisms at Trinity Lutheran?

The family is presented with a certificate of baptism for the individual as well as a certificate for the sponsors. We also provide an embroidered baptismal napkin, baptismal candle, and Bible. Our church baptismal banner will have the name of the person baptized and information will be included in the bulletin. The family should make arrangements to meet with the pastor the day of the baptism 30 minutes prior to the start of the service. Pictures are welcome after the service has concluded.
